The family’s vision was a midwestern lakefront architecture, not often showcased here in the Mid-Atlantic. This architecture and design are perfectly suited to the setting on a 64 acre forest conservation area with running stream in Carroll County, Maryland. The entire family enjoys outdoor activities and the location offers plenty of opportunities. “We wanted the home to complement the property and remind us of all that awaits outside the walls of our home,” commented the homeowner. At the same time, Interior Designer Stacia Smith worked to make the interior a true reflection of the exterior by incorporating design, color, and tones from the stone, siding, and roof into the interior palettes throughout the home.
Inside the modest 4,200 square foot home, you’ll find practical use of each space for the family’s lifestyle. The high-quality elements of detail are subtle, yet thoughtfully designed. Unique wood species and reclaimed barn wood was hand-selected and incorporated into the beams, flooring, staircase, and cabinetry. The ‘seamless designed’ custom cabinetry eliminates unsightly lines and joints. The smallest details include hidden outlets thoughtfully incorporated into the underside of the kitchen cabinets, allowing the backsplash to flow uninterrupted.
